Robert Pattinson might have Twilight to thank for his fame, but that same role could have also cost him, according to his Remember Me director Allen Coulter. The director said had he seen Pattinson as a vampire, he probably wouldn't have cast him. Burn!
The 23-year-old heartthrob probably wouldn't have been cast in his new flick, where he stars alongside Pierce Brosnan, because the Twilight movies don't really highlight Pattinson's acting abilities. They pretty much just highlight his, well, physical qualities.
Coulter said: "If I had seen Twilight, I might not have hired him. He is so limited by the kinds of traits he has to express. It's not that psychologically complex."
However, Coulter is pleased he took a chance on Pattinson in the New York-based drama - which focuses on a touching love story between Pattinson's emotionally adrift character and a fellow college student -because it gives the young actor the chance to showcase his acting skills. He said: "He shows his playful side."
Although Coulter thinks the Twilight movies will not help Pattinson develop his screen skills he is hopeful his popularity will make the film a success. He told the USA Today newspaper: "I hope the rabid interest in Rob as a personality helps the box office. It would be foolish to say otherwise."
