For months, fans clamored for something—anything—that would give even a small glimpse into the world of “Eclipse”. As of the past three weeks, however, television and the internet have been positively flooded with brand new footage. Clips are so widespread that fans have begun naming them. The most recent has been informally dubbed “blood is thicker than water”.
The clip features a tense scene in the Cullen home, during which the family and Bella discuss the newborn army’s descent. It follows a trend being seen in the most recently-released clips: the depiction of entire conversations, instead of sound bytes and fast-paced cuts from beginning to end.
This recent flurry of released clips feels markedly different than just one month ago when the theatrical trailer premiered on Oprah. Dramatic commercials showing the trailer tape being escorted under lock and key are a far cry from now, when it seems clips are doled out like candy. In addition to mass market exclusives (such as those shown at the U.K.’s National Movie Awards and those shown by MTV at the 2010 Movie Awards, and today’s, which is being associated with The Insider), TV spots, and new footage seen as part of actor interviews on talk shows (such as Nikki Reed’s scene shown during her appearance on “Ellen”) round it out.
Though fans are eating up the new footage, it’s starting to feel a bit like we’ve already seen some pretty significant moments in the film. Here’s to hoping that what’s been released only scratched the surface of what the film has to offer, and that the theater version will not disappoint.
