"I really made an enormous mistake – clearly and obviously," The star of the upcoming third Twilight Saga film, Eclipse, told People magazine while in South Korea to promote the film. "And I'm really sorry about my choice of words."
"I've made stupid remarks before, and I've always reasoned: 'Whatever. They can think what they want,'" she said. "'Violated' definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought."
She told British Elle magazine in its July issue: "Your little persona is made up of all the places that people have seen you and what has been said about you, and usually the places that I am are so overwhelming in the moment and fleeting for me - like one second where I've said something stupid, that's me, forever."
"What you don't see are the cameras shoved in my face and the bizarre intrusive questions being asked, or the people falling over themselves, screaming and taunting to get a reaction," the magazine quoted her as saying. "All you see is an actor or a celebrity lit up by a flash. The photos are so...I feel like I'm looking at someone being raped...A lot of the time I can't handle it."
Stewart's role as teen mortal Bella Swan in the first Twilight film in 2008 launched her into international stardom. Fans follow the 20-year-old actress and her co-stars, such as Robert Pattinson and Ashley Greene, regularly.
Stewart has said shouting by people who want to get her attention at red carpet events has almost driven her to tears.
Stewart has reportedly signed on to star in On The Road, a 2011 film based on Jack Kerouac's 1950's cult novel that celebrates the Beat Generation and tells of a young man's travels in the United States. Eclipse is set for release on June 30. Stewart is also expected to reprise her role in the next Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn.
