Well, here we are just two days away from the world wide premiere of Twilight Saga: Eclipse. But then again you knew that. I mean, how could you not know that? The hype for this movie is EVERYWHERE you look! From the sides of buses, to GIGANTIC building side advertisements, if you were to walk down a busy street in New York City today, you might actually begin to convince yourself that the movie is following you… and I’m beginning to doubt that isn’t.
Honestly, the only way you could NOT know about this movie is if you just don’t ever go outside. But, then again, even if you don’t go outside you’re going to need to have no connection to the internet to be unaware of Eclipse‘s impending arrival. Now, that I think about it, there would have to also be no television in your house, what-so-ever, because, even a casual viewing will result in no less then 15 repeats of the same Eclipse TV spot, regardless of the channel. Oh, not to be sexist here, but you’re going to have to not have a daughter… or be a woman… or know a woman… So, if you’re a sad, lonely old man, with no family or friends, who sits in his basement all day reading dusty old books and banging a broom at the ceiling to silence the noise of some non-existent kids… then this story PROBABLY has nothing to do with you.
As far as EVERYONE ELSE on the planet is concerned, it appears that the global marketing campaign mixed with the passion of literally millions of die hard Twi-hards around the world, has resulted in some pretty impressive record breaking numbers. According to Fandango, Eclipse has claimed the spot of #1 in this year’s of advanced ticket sales. In fact since May 14th, the day that advanced tickets went on sale (which in itself is insane for June 30th release) more than 50% of all online-purchased tickets have been for Eclipse… EVERY SINGLE DAY! Meaning, that there hasn’t been one day for over a month in which Eclipse tickets haven’t accounted for nearly half of all ticket sales. THAT’s impressive. The demand has been so high in fact that many theaters have actually added 3 AM showings for Eclipse after the traditional midnight release… and I can personally say I’ve come across at least one sold out showing in that time slot.
So, taking all of that in.. I MIGHT have to suggest you attempt to book yourselves a ticket to see the movie NOW, if you haven’t already (which, obviously isn’t many of you) because, if you’re thinking that skipping the Tuesday midnight release will mean that you’ll have no problem getting in the next day… you MAY just be in for a very unwelcome and disappointing surprise. And I’m talking, end of Breaking Dawn level of disappointment.
