Movieehole: WTG! Greene great for LOL, JMO

So, I see "The Twilight Saga : Eclipse" (Summit would prefer that would refer to the film's full title, rather than truncate it to 'Eclipse' - things I do for a 'Bella' Bath Towel!) is breaking all sorts of records (and brains) overseas. It's pre-selling a boatload of ticket stubs, spurred a spike in underwear sales, but mostly, "The Twilight Saga : Eclipse" (takes way too long to type!) has broken the record for the number of screens it's on - something like 4,416 theaters, that's more screens than "Iron Man 2", "Transformers" and "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" (And the email will read "Yo, mother-hopper! Why you talk like dat about Eddie!?" - and it'll be signed by, of course, Charlie Murphy). You'll have no trouble getting into a session of the film this weekend. At the same time, you'll have a shitload of trouble finding a cinema that's playing "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead" or "The Lottery".
Can't say anything about "The Twilight Saga : Eclipse" (I'm sending Summit a bill for the finger surgery I'll have to have after typing that elongated title!), myself. Haven't seen it. There were no media screenings for it. I know the wife is going to see it tonight - but she's bias, in her mind she's already written a five-star review for it on the TwiMoms website. She loves it without having seen it. And I know she's not alone. It's like the film's marketing campaign has been shepherd by Parker Posey's character from "Josie and the Pussycats" - "Must love movie. Must buy T-Shirt. Must buy large coke with Edward's face on it to get free Edward pin. Must empty wallet to hobo on the street if he agrees to join Team Jacob". In all seriousness, I hear the film is Okay - or more than Okay. It's the first of the series that apparently resembles a real film - something that'll appeal to everyone, not just the Twi-hards or Twi-lites or Twi-cycles. And I'm not really surprised - David Slade is an excellent filmmaker. He hit it out of the park with "30 Days of Night" and before that, rattled my bits loose with the unnerving revenge thriller "Hard Candy". I'm sure he's had to make compromises here - but at the same time, sounds like he's also been able to bring his own distinct, and exciting style to the fold. I don't know if I'll be seeing the film - but I'm sure some of the writers will, so we'll run their reviews when they've shot them out and over.
Ashley Greene. Gorgeous. She plays Edward's sis, Alice in the films. And, from the sounds of it, might be well on her way to becoming both a heavily-sought pin-up and movie star. It was announced this morning (at Deadline) that the young (so young I'd probably be arrested for gazing at her in a press conference - she was born in like, 1987 or something - Jesus!) beauty is set to star opposite Miley Cyrus and Thomas Jane in a remake of popular French film "LOL" (which I sent to my work colleague, Alicia - she's apparently a big fan; haven't seen it myself). Lisa Azuelos directs the film, in which Greene "will play Cyrus’s nemesis in a coming of age story that takes place in the age of Facebook, iTunes and Youtube" (Oh, I get it! 'LOL'... yeah.. of course.... um, yep, not too quick off the mark there, Clint!). Demi Moore is also onboard the flick. Not that that means much. She hasn't been able to open a film since she cut the ribbon at the "Disclosure" premiere. Whatever the case, I think this girl is talented - she's actually quite good in the "Twilight" films, but more so, was really fun in Kevin Spacey starrer "Shrink". I hear she's also the highlight of "Skateland" - a film I'm very keen to see, being an avid-rollerskater from way back.
