TRANSLATION:

2002 Kristen Stewart made her international breakthrough in David Finchers film “Panic Room” alongside Jodie Foster. The role of Bella Swan in Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight Saga” made her a star overnight.

The role of Bella in “Twilight” made you a star. Do you enjoy your success?
Stewart: I’ve played tons of roles I put everything into but hardly anyone ever saw them. I’m happy that more of my films are being appreciated because of the success “Twilight” has.

The author Stephenie Meyer is said to  be very conservative because vampire Edward refuses to have sex before being married and wants to protect Bellas virtue…
Stewart: The characters in the books take completely different moral stands and are from completely different worlds. Bella doesn’t believe in the same values Edward does. She’s practically begging him to sleep with her and tries to convince him to see things from her, more modern, point of view. The same goes for him: He also tries to make her see that he feels that it’s his responsibility to protect her virtue. Although Bella told him that he doesn’t have to worry about that. But Edward does, what Edward does because he loves her and because he’s from another century.

Why, in your opinion, are people so fascinated with this virginal love story?
Stewart: Of course the world we live in is completely different. Nobody has a relationship with a 109-year-old vampire. But that’s what makes the whole story interesting. When you fall in love for the first time you have the feeling that you’re stronger than everybody else. The story projects this unreal feeling of being in love into Edward, who as a vampire has this supernatural power.
