Peter Facinelli has updated his Twitter page to state that he has begun work on Nurse Jackie's third season, which was greenlit in March of this year following a successful second season debut.
In NY starting Nurse Jackie Season 3. Table read today w/ Emmy Falco. 4x Edie award winner. Or vice versa. I'll just call her Emmedie Falco.
In the series' second season, Showtime orchestrated an interactive Twitter page for Facinelli's character, "Dr. Fitch Cooper," which issued updates simultaneous with each episode's airing. That site was also recently updated with information on the character's stand-up cutout availability, so it's possible the tradition will continue with Season Three.
In Peter Facinelli's recent hour-long interview with Tom's of Maine, he talked about Nurse Jackie's third season plans, noting that filming for the show will overlap with production on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 much the same as Season Two did with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse last year.
While the direction of Season Three has yet to be revealed, the ending of Season Two (which was well-discussed by TIME Magazine here) left "Nurse Jackie" (Edie Falco) exposed to her friends and family for what she is: a drug addict.
As noted in Facinelli's update, Edie Falco recently won an Emmy Award for her performance in the series, making her the first woman to earn Emmys for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series" and "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series." In his interview with Tom's, Facinelli explained that he missed her win during a restroom break at the awards show.
"Dr. Cooper" and "Nurse Jackie" have had a very interesting dynamic in Season One and Season Two, with the former very frustrated and emasculated by the hubris of the latter, but their interactions were the source of a lot of the show's lighter moments. In fact, "Fitch" seems to serve as the series' much-needed comedic relief along with other characters like "Zoey" and "Gloria Akalitus."
Nurse Jackie Season One's debut date was June 8, 2009, while Season Two's was March 22, 2010. The second season was filmed in the fall of 2009, though, so it is likely that Season Three will premiere in the spring as well.
This morning, Facinelli will be appearing on The Wendy Williams Show at 10:00 a.m. EST and The Joy Behar Show at 9:00 p.m. EST, likely to update fans on his work, per his Twitter page.
