Will James Frey's Books Be As Big As The Twilight Saga?
From nydailynews
With the "Harry Potter" franchise ending next summer and "Twilight" wrapping up a year later, it's quite likely the wizard and vampire fads are on their way out. If so, a new sci-fi fantasy trend will have to take the reins.
Can we interest you in aliens, perhaps?
That's the hook for "I Am Number Four," the D.J. Caruso-directed film whose explosive second trailer was just released earlier this week.
Based on the novel co-written by "A Million Little Pieces" author James Frey (under the pen name Pittacus Lore), "Number Four" tells the story of a group of teen aliens who are hunted on Earth, but who can only be killed in a numerical sequence.
As the trailer informs us, Numbers One through Three are already toast, and our first glimpse of Number Four (played by Alex Pettyfer) is right when he finds out he's next on the list. Four is told by his mentor (Timothy Olyphant) that he's got to keep running to avoid getting whacked by the bald bad guys who hunt him (former "Lost" star Kevin Durand leads the pack). Before long, he's undercover at a high school, making eyes at a fellow classmate named Sarah ("Glee" star Dianna Agron).
As the trailer progresses, Number Four discovers both his superpowers and his love for Sarah. He also teams up with another alien, Number Six (Teresa Palmer), and as the trailer ends, the two of them cause assorted mayhem while Olyphant's voiceover tells us they're more powerful together than they are apart.
Sounds promising, but is it franchise material? A second book, called "The Power of Six," is reportedly due out next year.
