MOVIE star Michael Sheen is determined to put his home county on the map in more ways than one.
He is coming home this spring to direct and star in Passions, an ambitious reworking of Port Talbot's traditional passion play.
It will be performed continuously at various locations over the Easter weekend, with the town and its people playing vital roles.
Now the production team is calling on schools and community groups across the county to piece together an important prop — a giant blanket.
"I want to encourage the community to get involved with Passion," said Michael.
"We want Passion to be a celebration of this wonderful town and its people: its past, its present and its future.
"We are aiming to make this the largest and most ambitious theatrical project this country has ever seen, but we can only do that with the help of the community. If we want to tell a story about this town, the town has to tell us its story."
Passions will be brought to life by Michael, the National Theatre Wales and the Wildworks theatrical company.
They have teamed up with Neath Port Talbot Community Arts to get schools and community groups working on individual textile pieces that will be stitched together in March to create a stunning, stylised map of the county.
Blaenbaglan and Glyncorrwg primary schools in Port Talbot and Cwmtawe Community School in the Swansea Valley were drawn at random to take part in free textile workshops run by artists during February.
Council sport, culture and active living co-ordinator Neil Thomas said: "However we would still like to encourage all community groups and schools to contact the Community Arts Team us if they wish to submit a textile piece."
The pieces will be sewn together in Margam Orangery on March 20.
Call 01639 889907 to get involved.
