IFC Films has debuted the trailer for Love, Wedding, Marriage, the directorial debut of Dermot Mulroney. Mandy Moore stars as Ava, a newlywed marriage counselor who learns her parents (James Brolin and Jane Seymour) are getting divorced: “Ava sets out on a dangerous path to save her parents’ marriage at the expense of her own, manipulating loved ones to achieve her objectives.” Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz plays Moore’s wife. Jessica Szohr plays her sister.
Love, Wedding, Marriage premieres on demand May 1, followed by a limited release on June 3.
I’ve long been fond of Moore, and Lutz is a very appealing romantic lead in this brief clip (even the scenes with his shirt on). Plus, the ever-affable Michael Weston makes an appearance! I can see myself falling for this one.
Apart from the cast, this isn’t the type of movie I typically go for. But I trust the IFC Films banner — that they wouldn’t pick up your average, tepid romantic comedy. Plus, the synopsis hints at a darker approach than the trailer suggests:
Ava (Moore) is a marriage counselor whose life as a newlywed married to Charlie (Lutz) is turned upside down when she discovers her parents’ happy marriage is unexpectedly headed for divorce. Determined to reconcile her parents for their 30th anniversary surprise party she stops at nothing plunging from one compromising situation to another. Will she destroy her own marriage and her professional life in her attempt to get her parents back together?
