Port Talbot, Wales, is a good 180 miles from all the goings-on in London, but that doesn't mean the townsfolk aren't getting into the wedding spirit, according to one of the town's favorite sons, actor Michael Sheen.
USA TODAY's Brian Truitt reports that Sheen was back home recently to produce a special three-day, continuous production of The Passion, which starred Sheen as a Christ-like figure and involved many of Port Talbot's 35,000 residents. (Also in attendance: Sheen's girlfriend Rachel McAdams, his co-star in the upcoming Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris.) He'll be back in Los Angeles by the time Will and Kate officially tie the knot and will be watching with the rest of us, while his people back in south Wales celebrate in grand fashion. (Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins are other notable personalities from Port Talbot.)
"There's a lot of street parties and that kind of stuff being planned," Sheen says. During the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth in 1977, "I remember there being a lot of street parties, and again with Diana and Charles being married. It's a lovely way to bring people together and create a sense of community.
"But in this town," he adds, "the last three days have done something I don't think even a royal wedding could do. It's going to be slightly anti-climactic in Port Talbot this weekend."
