Robert Pattinson’s interview with ‘Seventeen’

Your beloved Edward Cullen took a little break from Twilight last year to make Water for Elephants, an epic drama based on the bestselling Sara Gruen novel. That movie hits theaters on Friday, April 22 (who’s seeing it at midnight?), so Rob and co-star Reese Witherspoon turned up at the New York premiere tonight, to talk about the movie and their characters. When we asked Rob what he found most attractive about Marlena (Reese’s character, and the woman he falls in love with in the movie), here’s what he had to say:

Rob Pattinson: “Just her energy. She’s extremely charismatic. Especially for [my character] Jacob, being able to see that is amazing. He grew up in upstate New York on a farm, so you’re not going to see that many superstars!”

PS, when we asked him whether he thought it was weird to play a character named Jacob, he said:

RP: “I didn’t, until I was promoting the movie. Then I realized I’d set myself up for something!”

And PPS, he showed up at the premiere almost an hour early, so he could talk to all of the fans across the street, take pics with them, and sign autographs. Adorable.
