One in four women in the U.S. will become a victim of abuse or partner violence in her life. To help end this devastating cycle, Speak Out Against Domestic Violence was launched in 2004 to build awareness, to educate, and to develop and implement prevention and direct service programs.
- One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime
- 85% of domestic violence victims are women
- Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence
- Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police
- Witnessing violence between one’s parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next
Through the end of 2010, in the U.S. alone, they have provided more than $23 million for the domestic violence and gender violence causes.
LetMeSign had the privilege of attending the New York City Premiere ofWater for Elephants starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon. As you know, Reese is an Honorary Chairperson for the Avon Foundation’s Speak Out Against Domestic Violence.
During the premiere they had the opportunity of talking to her and Robert Pattinson regarding this auction and they were both pleased and excited at the idea.
