'The Mortal Instruments' Begins Chase for its Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower)

Do you recall how difficult it was to cast the role of Edward Cullen for the very first Twilight film? Well, Hollywood is in pursuit of a new leading man for young adult audiences to pine after. The part is called a “potential starmaker.”

The Mortal Instruments series is comprised of six novels by author Cassandra Clare. They are City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, and City of Fallen Angels. Her prequel series, The Infernal Devices, has one book so far, titled Clockwork Angel. Get this, even Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is a fan of City of Bones and now we will see it come to the silver screen.

Lily Collins (Abduction, Priest, The Blind Side) is Clary Fray, central heroine to the series. Clary starts out as your average girl until she realizes she has The Sight. She can see demons and Shadowhunters alike, which turns her on to all sorts of trouble and one gorgeous (if not sarcastic) hunter called Jace.

And according to the wrap and its exclusive, “Three young actors are in the running” to play Jace.

Drum roll please! The contenders are screen testing fellas:

1. Jamie Campbell Bower – (Caius of The Twilight Saga)
2. Ed Speleers – (Eragon)
3. Leebo Freeman – (“newcomer”)

You can’t tell me this isn’t a grand time for young adult readers of all things paranormal (and happen to like movies). The Hunger Games has a great cast for its film adaptation and one amazing actress just recently landed the role of The Host (haha, and Wanderer, too!
