Daily Mail Calls Robert Pattinson’s ‘Bel Ami’ a ‘Tasty Treat’

It looks like Robert Pattinson’s career as a Hollywood heartthrob is far from reaching its Twilight. The hunky English actor is getting ready for the release of his most outrageous movie yet, in which he stars as a philandering Frenchman who sleeps with married women to advance his social status. He shines as cad Georges Duroy in Bel Ami, who travels through 1890s Paris using his attractiveness to seduce influential older women. Luckily for him they are played by a succession of sexy actresses including Kill Bill star Uma Thurman.

He has a meteoric rise from the status of a pauper until he is in a position of power among the Parisian elite in the adaptation of the Guy de Maupassan novel. Robert, 25, admits his adoring Twilight fans, who are used to him portraying loveable vampire Edward Cullen, will be in for a shock. He said: ‘We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a s**t who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it. ‘Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies.’’ In the novel his character is an ex-soldier who becomes an amoral journalist, and ends up becoming the most successful man in Paris. Surprisingly Robert does not wear the infamous sculptured bushy moustache women found irresistible in the original book.

But he still manages to get to grips with no less than three of his leading ladies – Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas. However fans of the sensitive young actor do not need to worry about his character’s caddish tendencies rubbing off on him. Thurman, who co-stars as one of his numerous conquests, said: ‘He is incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously very handsome’. ‘He’s a very nice person and he’s sensitive, he’s present, he’s a really good actor.’
