Variety Showblitz: BREAKING DAWN' PANEL KICKS OFF COMIC-CON

"Twilight" has always been about the big, long tease, right? No exception at the "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" panel Thursday, where the first clips of Comic-Con included an extended scene from the honeymoon of Edward & Bella. Room darkens ... and the newlyweds walk into their beach vacation suite. She looks at the bed, lingers. (Screams from the crowd). He looks at her. She looks at him, then the bed, then him again. (More screams).
And then Edward goes ... "Are you tired? Want to go for a swim?" ARRRRGH, MORON! ... whereupon he walks off to take in the waters while she hits the bathroom to brush her teeth, shave her legs, consider various kinds of lingerie, and so on and so on. Will this love story ever come to a satisfactory conclusion?
According to the cast, the infamously bloody "birth scene" actually does just that: (Director) Bill Condon did a "really amazing job with that,"Taylor Lautner said. "You guys are gonna be very very pleased."
The crowd seemed equally pleased by what they saw, but the first panel of Comic-Con didn't exactly live up to its reputation as a screeching frenzy -- though fans had lined up since Tuesday, Hall H didn't fill up until it was well under way, and the throng stayed politely quiet throughout the presentation.
Stewart accidentally swore (a fairly tame "goddamn" was all) and weathered gleeful tittering whenever she said something that could be vaguley misconstrued as sexual, but by and large the panel was calm and relaxed.
But if it was sex that "Twilight" fans were after all this time, they finally got it -- the panel's finale was the teaser trailer, with actual sex scenesbetween the heretofore chaste forbidden lovers. (When you wait this long to consummate, weird things can happen, like splintering the headboard with your bare hands, ahem.)
What that scene creates, of course, is the vampire baby Renesmee, whose birth, as we've all heard, isn't easy.
"The birth scene is so different from everything else in the movie,"Robert Pattinson said. "For a fantasy series it goes quite far. It's hardcore, it's graphic. There's no other way to do it. It was fun."
