'Breaking Dawn' Was Initially Rated R, Says Kristen Stewart

The actress recalls her steamy sex scene with Robert Pattinson, which had to be re-cut from the original film.

Nearly missing its mark, the fourth film in The Twilight Saga was initially too racy for its target audience.

“We [originally] got rated R,” actress Kristen Stewart tells U.K.’s Glamour magazine. “They re-cut it.”

Between the hot-and-heavy consummation scene between Stewart’s Bella and Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the gruesome birth of the couple’s daughter Renesmee (played in Breaking Dawn – Part 2 by newcomer Mackenzie Foy), director Bill Condon was forced to tone down the footage in order to remain accessible to the series’ loyal tween fanbase. The film will debut in its PG-13 format on Nov. 18.

“It was so werid, it didn’t even feel like we were doing a Twilight film,” Stewart said of filming the controversial scenes. “I was like, ‘Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!’”

“It was very surreal,” she added.

Stewart is busy in London filming her next fantasy project, Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron and Ian McShane also star.
