Breaking Dawn and beyond

Get ready for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” with these fun facts about filming, foreshadowing and the future of the cast members.
The filming
• There’s no real Isle Esme, but at least Bella and Edward’s honeymoon was shot in Brazil — some in Rio de Janeiro and some around the village of Paraty, with its picturesque beaches and waterfalls. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson later flew to St. Thomas in the Caribbean for some last-minute extra footage.
• The entire cast spent months filming in Baton Rouge, La., followed by a bit more time in Vancouver, British Columbia.
• Parts 1 and 2 of “Breaking Dawn” were filmed at the same time, with sections shot out of order. So the last scene the lead actors did together was the wedding reception in “Part 1.”
“I remember the night that we shot Bella dancing with Jacob,” director Bill Condon says. “Rob had only been in the beginning of that scene, but he really was hanging around for the whole thing. When it was over as the sun was rising, it was the last time they were going to do a scene together, the three of them as these characters. None of them seem like the most sentimental person, but I think they were very aware of it and very moved by it.”
The foreshadowing
Filmmakers added two brief scenes to “Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” portending things to come in the final installment, arriving Nov. 16, 2012.
The Denali clan: These vampire “cousins” from Alaska may not harm humans, but they still cause a bit of a ruckus at the wedding reception. Pictured (from left): Edward’s mom, Esme (Elizabeth Reaser), welcomes Irina (Maggie Grace), who is still angry that werewolves killed her boyfriend (because he was about to eat Bella in “New Moon”), electrifying Kate (Casey LaBow) and Tanya (MyAnna Buring), who has a thing for Edward.
The Volturi: Aro (Michael Sheen) and his vampire police force are looking for any excuse, any provocation, to capture a talented Cullen or two for their own devices. Their opportunity soon arises.
Beyond ‘Twilight’
• Kristen Stewart: The trailer just came out for her “Snow White and the Huntsman” (June 1), with Charlize Theron as the malicious queen and Chris Hemsworth acting like Thor again, grooming the princess for battle. Watch at KansasCity.com/movies. Stewart also recently filmed “On the Road,” based on the Jack Kerouac novel.
• Robert Pattinson: He’s working on David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” for 2012, about a day in the life of a desperate multimillionaire. He also shot “Bel Ami,” based on Guy de Maupassant’s novel. He plays a young journalist in Paris who rises through the ranks of society with the help of Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci.
• Taylor Lautner: Several projects are in development, including the action adventure “Stretch Armstrong” and the prison thriller “Incarceron,” but neither has started filming.
• Author Stephenie Meyer: The studio is now casting her non-“Twilight” novel, “The Host,” due out in March 2013. The latest announcement: Max Irons, below (Jeremy’s son, who starred in “Red Riding Hood”), will play Jared, who thinks he lost his girlfriend to alien invaders. Actually, Melanie (Saoirise Ronan, right) is sharing her body with a soul from another planet, a creature that really just wants to get along.
• Right now in theaters you can catch Charlie Bewley (Demetri of the Volturi guard) in the new “Like Crazy,” Anna Kendrick (Bella’s classmate Jessica) in the comedy “50/50,” Kellan Lutz (Edward’s brother Emmett) in “Immortals” and, still on a few screens, Lautner’s thriller, “Abduction.”
