Peter Facinelli's Private Life Is Ok Even If He's In Twilight
From source: MiamiHerald
Peter Facinelli is proof that you can appear in all the Twilight movies and still have a private life. Facinelli has played Carlisle, the paternal figure of the vampire Cullen clan, in the three previous films, and he reprises the role in Breaking Dawn - Part 1, which opens Friday.
But unlike co-stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who relinquished all rights to privacy when the Twilight movies exploded into popular culture, Facinelli can still go out in public without spawning flash mobs of hysterical young women.
“I look so different than Carlisle — he has blond hair and golden eyes and pale skin — that I can get away with walking through an airport without sending people’s heads spinning,” the actor says. “When people do recognize me and walk up to say hi, they will usually spout a few of the movies than I’ve done, not just Twilight, which I like too. But people who discovered me through Twilight have gotten to know some of my other work as well.”
Facinelli, who turns 38 this month, had a robust career long before Stephenie Meyer cooked up her brew of bloodsuckers, werewolves and lovestruck adolescents. In film, he appeared in hits such as The Scorpion King and Can’t Hardly Wait. On TV, he’s played recurring characters in such series as Six Feet Under, Fast Lane and Damages. When we spoke to Facinelli via telephone from Los Angeles last Friday, he had just come from the set of Nurse Jackie, the Showtime series in which he plays the endearingly vain Dr. Fitch Cooper, who has a most unusual nervous tic.
What can Nurse Jackie fans expect in the upcoming fourth season? “A new company has bought the hospital, and we have a new boss, played by Bobby Cannavale,” Facinelli says. “Coop is going through an identity crisis because he just got left at the altar, so he’s showing up to work in jeans and T-shirts and a goatee. We’re having a blast. I have so much fun on that show.”
Right now, though, there’s Breaking Dawn. Facinelli says he was just as curious as anyone else about who was going to end up directing the final two Twilight films and was surprised and delighted when Bill Condon ( Dreamgirls, Kinsey, Gods and Monsters) landed the gig.
“We’re just like you guys: We have to sit and wait until [distributor] Summit Entertainment decides who it’s going to be,” he says. “I thought Bill was a really interesting and out-of-the-box choice. He’s a very compassionate man who treats his actors gently and kindly. But yeah, we’re also kept in the dark until the name is announced. I haven’t even seen the movie yet!”
