Ashley Talks with Grazia About Being the New Face of Donna Karan

It would be enough for most girls, I would imagine, to be a beautiful, young Hollywood star working with the not-exactly-hideous Robert Pattinson in the world’s biggest movie franchise. It would drive most girls wild to also date the likes of Chace Crawford, Joe Jonas and Kings of Leon’s Jared Followill. But that’s not enough for Twilight star Ashley Greene, who has recently become the face of DKNY and DKNY Jeans and, earlier this week, attended both the Donna Karan New York and DKNY shows at New York Fashion Week, where we caught up with her to discuss this collaboration with one of American fashion’s biggest names. I first met Donna at her Spring 2010 Fashion Week show,' said Ashley. 'Soon after, she designed a stunning, one of a kind gown for me for the MET Ball.' The dress – a strapless, bisque-coloured tulle gown embroidered with stripes of platinum sequins – was a bit of a showstopper. 'It was out of this world,' Greene told me. 'I felt like a princess. So when they approached me about being the spokesperson of DKNY and DKNY Jeans, it was a very organic fit.'

Greene – who began her career as a model before turning to acting – was impressed when she saw the results of the campaign, shot by photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. ‘Ironically, two of my favourite shots were the ones that ended up on the Times Square Billboard,’ she said of the two black and white DKNY Jeans photographs which she previously unveiled in New York. ‘Those were the first images revealed from the campaign, and my first time on a billboard in Times Square, so it was an exciting day!’ Outside of her collaboration with the DKNY brand, Greene is busy racking up more acting credits on film and television – she stars alongside Olivia Wilde in the upcoming movie, Butter and was most recently seen locking lips with Christina Ricci in her role as Amanda Mason on TV’s sixties-set Pan Am. The job allowed Ashley to indulge the retro side of her style. ‘I’ve always loved the fashion from that era,’ she said. ‘It made it easy to get into the character of Amanda. Once you’re in the wardrobe, hair and makeup, you’re immediately transported back to the Sixties.’ Fear not, she’ll transport herself back to 2012 in time for the Met Ball. The dress? Who else but her new boss, Donna Karan? Can’t. Wait.
