"The Cake Eaters" Grabs the attention of The Westfall Foundation
CEO of the Westfall Foundation, Kerry Westfall, was born with a neuromuscular disease called Friedreichs Ataxia. Friedreich’s Ataxia (also called FA or FRDA) is a rare inherited disease that causes nervous system damage and movement problems. It usually begins in childhood and leads to impaired muscle coordination (ataxia) that worsens over time.
Although there is no effective treatment or cure available, Friedreich’s ataxia patients and families have more and more reason for real hope. In fact, that hope has been translated into increasing confidence that treatment and a cure for Friedreich’s ataxia will be achieved.
When Kerry watched “The Cake Eaters,” he vowed to meet and personally thank the writer, Jayce Bartok. Kerry obtained Jayces email address and told him about his video, “Commit to Your Health,” he was inspired, and, although he was currently very busy producing his newest film, “Tiny Dancer,” he committed himself to helping her cure her disease by making Kerry a video along with his famous friends to support my video.
“I was determined to write a film about a character trapped physically in their body but emotionally they are completely normal, in fact, more sensitive, and yearning for love. I wrote ‘The Cake Eaters’ about a young woman,Georgia, battling FA, and it was made into a film directed by Mary Stuart Masterson, starring Kristen Stewart. Kerry Westfall reached out to me recently, and I was profoundly inspired by his fitness video, ‘Commit To Your Health,’ so much so, that my wife and I decided to make a short video raising awareness about Kerry’s efforts to stay healthy in spite of FA. Kerry’s video is unique and noteworthy, and we easily enlisted the help of a few of our celebrity friends – Joelle Carter (Justified) and Jeremy Davidson (Pan Am/Army Wives) who were also moved and inspired by Kerry’s commitment to his health.
We eventually want to continue to add to our roster of celebrities in the video as we continue to spread the word about Kerry and his amazing work.” – Jayce Bartok A trailer for Tiny Dancer can be seen at theindependentcollective.com “Commit to Your Health” Can be purchased online at Amazon.Com, more information available at committoyourhealth.org
