Series is update on characters from 'Red Dragon' novel
David Slade is on board to direct NBC's "Hannibal" pilot. Helmer, whose latest bigscreen effort was "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," has done some episodic TV work in the recent past.He directed the pilot of NBC's drama "Awake" as well as an episode from the last season of AMC's "Breaking Bad."
Written by Bryan Fuller ("Pushing Daisies"), who exec produces with Martha DeLaurentiis, Sara Colleton, Jesse Alexander and Katie O'Connell, "Hannibal" is a story update on the characters from author Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon." Slade will exec produce the pilot.
Series is being produced by Gallic shingle Gaumont International Television. Peacock has already ordered 13 episodes.
Hugh Dancy has been cast as FBI agent Will Graham, whose mentor is the treacherous Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
DAVID_A_SLADE We are doing Hannibal, Bryan's script is excellent and while there will be some re invention it's REALLY faithful to the Harris books.
