channel24 Cape Town - Twilight Saga star Ashley Greene has spent her time in South Africa meeting fans, going on safari and having her food stolen by monkeys.
In an interview with Channel24 on Thursday, the 25-year-old said she "saw a ton of animals" on her first day on safari in South Africa.
"Everyone said it would be life-changing and it totally is, it was amazing," she said. "As soon as I was done I told my parents that they have, have to come. That was the big thing I wanted to do [in South Africa] – it was lovely."
Ashley, who plays psychic vampire Alice Cullen in the Twilight movies, is in South Africa to promote the final film in the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 2, in a special international fan campaign that saw her co-stars visit countries from around the world to take the Twilight experience to them.
Monkey thief
The off-the-beaten track saw Robert Pattinson, who plays Alice's vampire brother Edward Cullen, go to Australia this week, while Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) visited Japan and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) jetted off to Brazil.
"We want to make sure we reach as many fans and interact with as many people as possible," Ashley said.
While on safari, Ashley had a particularly strange encounter with a monkey that stole asparagus from the restaurant where she was enjoying her lunch.
"It was so funny!" Ashley said of her safari mishap. "The chef comes out to ask what we want and we ordered asparagus with it [lunch] and he went on this tirade about how the monkeys broke in and stole his asparagus. He was so distraught but me and my friend thought it was the coolest thing in the world."
"From now on if any restaurant tells me a monkey stole whatever I ordered I'd be totally fine if they don't have it," she said.
Ashley spent most of her time in SA meeting the press but also made time to attend a specialTwilight Saga fan event at Nu Metro Montecasino to meet South African Twi-hards and answer some of their questions before a special screening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1as they whet their appetites for the final film.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 opens in cinemas worldwide on 16 November.
