Michael Sheen helps out at Port Talbot bake sale
The Welsh actor donned an apron to help raise money for the Fostering Network’s Welsh Cakes for Welsh Kids campaign in Aberavon
walesonline It's not often you have a Hollywood superstar helping out at a bake sale.
But that’s exactly what happened at Aberavon Shopping Centre in Port Talbot today as Michael Sheen donned an apron to help raise money for the Fostering Network’s Welsh Cakes for Welsh Kids campaign. The Hollywood superstar and his helpers from the Neath Port Talbot Fostering Team were aiming to shift around 500 cakes supplied by Jersey Bakery, with all the profits going straight to the fostering charity.
Baglan-raised Sheen is a familiar face in the area and performed parts of the 72-hour play The Passion in the very same shopping centre in 2011.
Welshcakes in hand, he said he was more than happy to help the Fostering Network Wales.
“I think any organisation that is helping children who are vulnerable or going through difficulties needs supporting, especially as there are a lot of cuts going around at the moment,” he said. “And a lot of the support that was there is disappearing.
“People who are prepared to help children through fostering need as much support as they can get.
“It’s humbling to be able to be involved in important work that people are doing in the local community and I’m more than happy to help in any way I can.
