Kristen Talks About James Gandolfini with EW

 photo GANDOLFINI-STEWART_zps1c53dc7f.jpg

They were mismatched from the get-go.

James Gandolfini was hulking, fearsome, and bristling with submerged rage and grief. Kristen Stewart was tiny, fragile and fronting false confidence as she spiraled into self-destruction.

At least, those were their characters in Welcome to the Rileys, a 2010 indie drama starring her as a teenage stripper/prostitute and him as the well-meaning but misguided father of a deceased child who thought he could try and save her instead.

Stewart has been silent since Gandolfini’s unexpected death last week from a heart attack at age 51, but with his funeral set for Thursday in New York, she is opening up about the loss of a friend and colleague:

“When I heard of James’ passing I was in New Orleans, where we met shooting, and every memory flooded back and gutted me,” she tells EW in a statement. “I’ll hold that time near to me forever. He was immeasurably great. My heart goes out to his beloved family.”

New Welcome to the Rileys DVD Review

Photobucket

Directed by Jake Scott, Argonaut Pictures, 2010. Starring James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo.

Genre: Drama

Review by: Tired of Previews

Question: Do you think the actors who have played two of the most well known TV and movie characters in the last 10 years (Tony Soprano and Bella Swan) can be seen as anything else? I say yes - Welcome to the Rileys proves that.

I saw a clip from Welcome to the Rileys when it was getting ready to debut. The clip didn't show much and I couldn't understand who these two characters were to each other. However, I rented it to see what the story was about. Now, you know I am not going to spoil it for you but rest assured the relationship portrayed in this film was different than most I have seen between an older man and young female - and worth watching.

Welcome to the Rileys takes a subject matter that many families have thrust upon them and shows the aftermath through a profound and realistic view point. Life is messy, cruel and can kick you in the stomach but many films like to make sure you leave satisfied in the end with everyone smiling and fixed. This film doesn't try to solve all the answers and it doesn't clean it all up either. How refreshing.

Win ‘Welcome To Rileys’ Starring Kristen Stewart On DVD!

Photobucket
‘Welcome To Rileys’ is headed to home video on February 1st, 2011 and Icon Vs. Icon is going to give you a shot at taking it home! The film stars James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart and Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo and is directed by acclaimed film and music video director Jake Scott (including videos for R.E.M., Radiohead, U2, Oasis, The Strokes). It first premiered at Sundance 2010 to critical acclaim for its emotionally charged performances!
James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo star as a married couple whose relationship has deteriorated due to a family tragedy years earlier.  In what is widely considered her most dramatic and mature role yet, Kristen Stewart plays Mallory, a teenage runaway who transforms the couple’s relationship after their lives intersect.
Synopsis: ‘Welcome To Rileys’ is a powerful drama about finding hope in the most unusual of places. Once a happily married and loving couple, Doug and Lois Riley (James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo) have grown apart since losing their teenage daughter eight years prior. Leaving his agoraphobic wife behind to go on a business trip to New Orleans, Doug meets a 17-year-old runaway (Kristen Stewart) and the two form a platonic bond. For Lois and Doug, what initially appears to be the final straw that will derail their relationship, turns out to be the inspiration they need to renew their marriage.

'Welcome To The Rileys' French Box Office!

Photobucket

Directed by Jake Scott, and starring James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart, and Melissa Leo, Welcome to the Rileys, which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, opened last Friday on 73 screens in France.
Distributed by Bac Films, Welcome to the Rileys landed in 24th place. During its first five days, the psychological drama took in $158k. According to local exhibitors, approximately 20-25k tickets were sold.
Coincidentally, that same weekend Unstoppable, directed by Jake Scott's uncle Tony Scott, also opened in France. I won't make any box-officecomparisons, as that would be quite absurd.
In the US, at most in 10 theaters at a time, Welcome to the Rileys has grossed (up to Nov. 14) $107k.
