thewrap Stephen Frears is directing the John Hodge-scripted drama for Working Title
“The Hobbit” star Lee Pace has joined the cast of Stephen Frears’ untitled Lance Armstrong movie that stars Ben Foster as the controversial cyclist, TheWrap has learned.
Working Title is producing the Studio Canal-funded movie, which screenwriter John Hodge (“Trance”) adapted from journalist David Walsh’s book “Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong.”
Chris O’Dowd co-stars as Walsh, while “Breaking Bad” star Jesse Plemons and Guillaume Canet have key supporting roles.
The film chronicles Armstrong’s rise to fame and fall from grace, including his Tour de France championships and battle with cancer. Walsh was among the integral figures who helped expose doping within professional cycling.
Pace’s role remains under wraps.
Pace, who reprises his role as Thranduil in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” recently co-starred in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln.” The “Pushing Daisies” veteran will soon be seen as the villainous Ronan the Accuser in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
