(Video) Robert Pattinson: 'Harry Potter' Fans Don't Compare To 'Twilight' Fans

'Breaking Dawn' director Bill Condon wasn't the only one dropping bombs at the live panel discussion at the Official Twilight Convention in L.A. over the weekend. Robert Pattinson put 'Harry Potter' fans on blast when he said they didn't hold a candle to the 'Twilight' fans he's met over the years while promoting the franchise.

"We've been doing press for the last two days and it's the most insanely boring thing in the world, and then we come do something like this and people are screaming, 'Pull your pants down!' or whatever... it does make it exciting," he said.

Rob went on to say he thinks 'Twilight' fans are more fanatical than fans of any other series, including... wait for it, 'Harry Potter.'

"Twilight fans, I have never seen fanatics for other series that even compare to this," he said. "I did a 'Harry Potter' movie and the fans of that, they like 'Harry Potter,' but they're not like.. [pauses as people start cheering]... you're screaming because you're 'Harry Potter' fans, I'm just about to put you down. There's no comparison to 'Twilight' fans, they're literally on the verge of being clinically insane. But it makes premieres and stuff absolutely amazing experiences, it's like being hit by a tidal wave and it's been a lot of fun over the years."

What do you think, do you agree? Or are you one of the 'Harry Potter' fans who goes nuts over Daniel, Rupert and Emma, not Rob, Taylor and Kristen? Also, should Rob try to land a Tribute role in either 'Catching Fire' or 'Mockingjay' so he can appear in that teen trilogy as well?

Harry Potter takes down "Twilight"

What seemed like a simple battle between good and evil ended with a huge victory for the cast of Harry Potter this weekend as they took home the record for biggest box office record. Harry Potter fans rejoiced as Harry Potter took down Twilight at the box office this weekend with a record of 168.8 million dollars. Harry Potter has now become one of the most biggest movies of all time. But no surprise there it's only been around for 10 years. So what about Twilight? Will it rise or will it fall? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

EW: Harry Potter Finale May Take New Moon and Eclipse Records

According to Entertainment Weekly, Part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows may overtake he box office records set by New Moon:

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2 has already collected $25 million domestically from advance ticket sales, according to Variety. The majority of the sales have reportedly been for midnight screenings, giving Deathly Hallows a legitimate shot at beating the $30 million midnight record set last year by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The final Harry Potter film will also be aiming its wand at some other box-office milestones, such as the largest opening day (currently The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $72.7 million) and the biggest opening weekend (The Dark Knight with $158.4 million).

Q: The films have spawned lots of big stars, such as Robert Pattinson. Are you a fan of the Twilight films?
R: Yeah, definitely. There's no rivalry. I've only seen one-and-a-half of them. My sisters love them. It's great to see Robert in this huge thing.I was pleased for him.

Q: Do you keep in contact?
R: Not really. The last time I saw him was just before he got the Twilight job. I think ii was at the fifth film premiere. he just happened to be walking past as he wasn't originally invited because he wasn't in that film. (Laughs).

'Twilight' Vs. 'Harry Potter' At MTV Movie Awards: Celebs Weigh In!

Given the fact that the latest installments in the blockbuster "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" film franchises are the first and third most-nominated films leading into Sunday's MTV Movie Awards — with eight nominations for "Eclipse" and six nominations for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" — we figured it would be fun to ask a few of our favorite celebs the most polarizing of all questions: Team Potter or Team Twilight?

"Wow, that's hard, because I love both of them," Elle Fanning told us of her divided devotion, made especially difficult because of the fact that Fanning's older sister Dakota appears in "The Twilight Saga."
"There's something really sexual about 'Twilight,' " superstar figure skater Johnny Weir pointed out. "And as an older gentleman, I enjoy that."
"Who doesn't want to be a witch or wizard and go to school at Hogwarts?" "Pretty Little Liars" star Troian Bellisario asked rhetorically.
"I'm going to have to remain neutral on that," "X-Men: First Class" star Michael Fassbender said diplomatically.
"You said you cried watching 'Twilight,' after 30 seconds," Fassbender's co-star James McAvoy pointed out.
"Dammit, James!" Fassbender exclaimed sarcastically, pretending to be embarrassed by some big secret he was trying to keep.
" 'Harry Potter' is more my generation," Camilla Belle said. "I remember I was in elementary school when 'Harry Potter' came out."
"I'd have to say [Team] Twilight," "Glee" star Chord Overstreet added.
"I'm a 'Potter' person, because 'Potter' got me reading," revealed "Friday Night Lights" and "Prom" actress Aimee Teegarden.
"[There's] something about vampires and werewolves that do it for me," Hilary Duff weighed in, bringing the unofficial poll count to three Team Potter members vs. four for Team Twilight.
At this year's Movie Awards, "Eclipse" (eight nominations) will be facing off against "Inception" (seven noms) and "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1" (six noms). Voting in all the categories, from Best Kiss to Best Fight to Best Scared-as-S**t Performance and beyond, is currently under way over at MovieAwards.MTV.com. Voting is set to close June 4. But voting for Best Movie will stay open through the show itself, meaning you have a chance to affect the night's biggest winner up until the very last minute.
The 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Deathly Hallows Part 1' will fall short of 'Twilight:New Moon' opening numbers?!

As we get closer to Thanksgiving, we're starting to get the big holiday movies and this weekend's offering is a doozy, being the seventh chapter of one of the most successful film franchises of all time, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (Warner Bros.) brings back all the popular trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint and many of the fan favorites who have been keeping the series together since the first movie nine years ago. With many Thursday midnight shows already sold out, we can probably expect a huge opening day, though probably making less than the last movie, which opened during the summer. Either way, without having a Wednesday opening cutting into the weekend, "Deathly Hallows - Part 1" will be looking at the opening for The Twilight Saga: New Moon as a goal, but probably will fall just short, still ending among the Top 10 openings and be the biggest opening weekend for the series so.

This weekend last year saw the release of another anticipated sequel as The Twilight Saga: New Moon (Summit) starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner exploded into theaters with $142.8 million, becoming the third-biggest opening movie of all time and making it evident that the previous year's "Twilight" phenomenon was no flash in the pan.

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows' Full Trailer To Premiere Before 'Eclipse'

As if you didn't have reason enough to go see "Eclipse" on Wednesday, here's an added incentive: the first full trailer for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will be premiering before it.

We made sure we got confirmation before posting this that the trailer would indeed be different than the one that debuted at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. It will include bits from both of the "Deathly Hallows" films, and we're pretty excited to see some (hopefully) new footage.

Once we get closer to November, we're sure that we'll be seeing some trailers focusing solely on "Part 1," but until then, we like that the friendly rivalry between "The Twilight Saga" and "Harry Potter" seems to have settled into friendship. In addition to the trailer debuting before "Eclipse," the release dates of both parts of "Deathly Hallows" and both parts of "Breaking Dawn" were set so that they don't conflict with each other. Thank you Warner Bros. and Summit for not making us choose between our two favorite teen franchises!

And, in case you can't wait all the way until Wednesday to see the new trailer, we also got word that it will be premiering online on Monday afternoon (June 28th), and you'll be able to find it right here on Hollywood Crush. This really is our favorite time of year.

Does this increase your excitement to go see "Eclipse"? Are you glad you don't have to choose between "Harry Potter" and "The Twilight Saga"?

Pre-Twilight Robert Pattinson (video)

Before he was the Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson's pretty face was put to good use for another major franchise. That's right, I'm talking about his turn as golden boy Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. While Cedric meets an unfortunate fate in the end, there's plenty of boyish Pattinson screen time to soak up. Since the heartthrob celebrated his birthday yesterday, I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane, when Pattinson lurked in the shadow of Daniel Radcliffe. Here's a video of Radcliffe, Pattinson, and director Mike Newell weighing in on "good-looking" Pattinson and Cedric. Oh, how the times have changed.

Edward Cullen vs. Harry Potter

I met Robert Pattinson last May in Cannes. It was a top-secret kind of thing — I had to sign a paper saying I wouldn’t write a story about it until his new movie, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, opens in November — but I can reveal that the interview, which was held in the martini bar behind a beachside restaurant, was held to the background noise of a crowd of young girls who stood on the road, behind security barriers, and screamed non-stop. I don’t know how Pattinson finally got out: by sea would seem to be the only escape route. Otherwise, he maybe there yet.

By contrast, Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the Harry Potter films that are competing for the same tween audience, is a less likely sex symbol: he’s short and nerdy. That’s not my judgment, it’s what Radcliffe himself said the other day. “If girls like short and nerdy, then I’m a sex symbol,” he said, adding, “Rob Pattinson is a sex symbol. He’s a genuinely sexy guy — he’s got the height.”

Pattinson, who coincidentally played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is six foot one. Radcliffe is five foot six.

Radcliffe can also get young girls to scream, but his is a more restrained hysteria. At the New York City premiere of his new movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he walked past the adult reporters to talk to an 11-year-old girl named Danielle, who was reporting for Scholastic News, an online service for kids. Here is part of that interview, as reported in New York magazine:

Danielle: “I’ve seen the first and second movies and read the first and second book and they are so good. Especially the movies. I loved them, the movies.”

Radcliffe: “Thank you very much. You’re very, very kind. They get even better than that though, so when you get the time, or when your parents think you’re old enough, you must watch the rest. They’re very cool.”

Radcliffe’s sweet and patient answer is a telling indication of the audience for the Harry Potter films as compared with the more mature passions of the Twilight fans who find Pattinson’s Edward Cullen character too adorable for words.

However, young wizards-in-waiting do grow up to become young virgins-in-waiting, and Harry Potter himself is growing into that more adult world: the word is that the new movie is more mature and that romance is in the air. The wizard is getting older, and suddenly it’s not all quidditch and magic spells.

That crossover in audience appeal has put Harry Potter into a kind of competition with Twilight. The vampire movie has made $382 million (US), and while that is dwarfed by the Harry Potter success story — 400 million books sold, $4.5 billion at the box office — a rivalry has sprung up among fans, at least on a tsunami of fansites arguing the merits of the two franchises. (Sample debate, from nerdfighters.ning.com: If the Twilight characters and the Harry Potter characters got into a fight, who would win?)

The studios behind the series are steering clear of talk about competition, except for the fact that the Twilight films don’t open near the dates when Harry Potter movies are introduced.

Rob Friedman, head of Summit Entertainment, which produces the Twilight movies, told the Wall Street Journal, “We are very cognizant of where they are, and we’ve always been wary of being in too close proximity to Harry Potter because we know our fans cross over so much and we definitely don’t want to compete with Harry for attention.”

If Harry is still the king, Twilight is the coming thing. But not all Harry Potter fans have matured into Twilight aficionados and there are new readers all the time. An indication of Harry’s enduring popularity can be seen in an ad from Bauman Rare Books, a New York company: a 1940 first edition of Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom The Bell Tolls sells for $2,600; a signed first edition of John Le Carre’s 1963 novel The Spy Who Came In From The Cold is priced at $5,500, but an autographed first edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which was published in 1998, costs $13,500.

Harry has burrowed into the common culture in a way that Twilight has yet to accomplish. A group called The Harry Potter Alliance, which promotes social activism among Harry Potter fans, is asking moviegoers who attend the new film to wear name tags stating lessons taught by Albus Dumbledore, Harry’s mentor, and to tweet these messages to each other (a discussion of the character’s lessons can be found at whatwoulddumbledoredo.org).

In a press release, Andrew Slack, the head of the alliance, compares Dumbledore’s messages to those of Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.

So far, no one has said that about Edward Cullen. He is a vampire, but Harry Potter may be the one who lives forever.

Did J.K. Rowling disrespect ‘Twilight’ author Stephenie Meyer?

Oh, this is one is sure to rile up the epic battle royale between the Twihards and the Potter-heads. Apparently, the Academy thought it would be a cool idea for the two biggest selling authors in the world - J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) and Stephenie Meyer (author of the Twilight series) - to present together at this year’s Oscars. Meyer stepped up and said she would do it, with pleasure, while J.K. declined, claiming that she was too busy writing to make the trip to LA. Um… what? Too busy to present at the Oscars?!?

Is there a fantasy writer feud brewing, or is J.K. Rowling just really busy? The Harry Potter author declined an invitation to present an award at Sunday’s Oscars, citing her work on her next book.

Rowling and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer were invited to present the Best Adapted Screenplay prize together, and while Meyer responded positively to the idea, Rowling didn’t find the trip from England worth it.

She wrote on her Web site that the world “won’t be hearing from me often I am afraid, as pen and paper is my priority at the moment.”

Rowland’s decision not to attend comes on the same day as the millionaire reaches another milestone: The Harry Potter books topped the list of “Top 10 Books to Pass On” to future generations by Brits—a full four spots higher than the No. 5 Twilight series (also included where the 9/11 Commission Report and Barack Obama’s memoirs).

[From The Daily Beast]

Now, I’m sure J.K. didn’t mean it as a diss. Well, maybe she did. I wonder if authors who have sold a bazillion books still engage in petty girl fights? Is that what this about? Two professional, rich, accomplished women who the media must report on as if they’re drugged-out starlets fighting for the fifth supporting role in a horror film? Now, even though I don’t like the misogynistic undercurrent, and I seriously doubt J.K. meant anything by declining the offer, I do think it’s rude. I mean, Rowling would have been a best-selling author no matter what, but Hollywood has still made her even richer and more powerful and more well-known, and what’s wrong with being a little gracious and going out of your way to show the Academy some respect?

Robert Pattinson: no one wants to see me naked

Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson loathes giving interviews so much that he recently offered to strip completely naked for a magazine instead – and had his request rejected!

The 23-year-old heartthrob, who sends fans into a tizzy wherever he goes, is notoriously protective of his personal life, particularly his rumoured relationship with co-star Kristen Stewart who plays Bella Swan in the vampire movies.

So it’s not really surprising he’s not the biggest fan of being questioned by journalists over and over – and made his hatred of interviews quite clear.

The star, who has also appeared in Harry Potter, is quoted by Metro saying: “If I didn’t have to do interviews I wouldn’t. If you just do pat answers to things, people get sick of you for it.”

The sexy actor, who offered to get his kit off for Details magazine rather than go through an interview, was politely rejected.

He said: “I offered to do a naked photoshoot – but no-one wanted to see me naked. It started off with me naked and they were like ‘actually, just forget it’.”
