How Much Money Did Breaking Dawn Bring to Brazil?
Ask any teenager how much being "as well stay less than 20 feet from your favorite vampire?" is worth. The common answer is "priceless." For Rio, take the famous character Edward Cullen - Robert Pattinson's role in Twilight series - dancing around on the roads cost $ 500,000. This was the value that RioFilme, company linked to the city, invested in the production of the movie Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (the fourth of series), from the American studio Summit.
But the council got back $ 3 million. The amount was spent by the U.S. team for scenes of honeymoon couple's big stars, a handsome vampire and human Bella (played by Kristen Stewart), in the Lapa neighborhood and in an isolated island in the region of Paraty. Balance: $ 2.5 million.
The article goes on to talk about the Fast and the Furious 5 that is spending 2 million in Rio. The article also says to close one street in Rio takes 50 meetings and 2 production teams to get through all the red tape. So filming that scene in Lapa took lots of engineering to close down one street for 12 hours. Usually street scenes in Rio are in the slums, they are happy that Breaking Dawn, even though is will only be on screen for minutes, will be shown in Paraty and Lapa. The street scene created 300 jobs in the Brazilian film industry.
Another way the film made the country money was lodging. The Copacabana Palace has received the two teams in their apartments ($ 1,000 per day) and presidential suites (daily R $ 4,600), earning at least $ 500,000 to the hotel in ten days.
Wonder if Robert and Kristen were in a Presidential suite??
