'OnTheRedCarpet' Talks To Kellan Lutz About Playing Immortal

Kellan Lutz told OnTheRedCarpet.com that it wasn't a stretch for him to play a god in "Immortals," because after the "Twilight Saga," he's used to being immortal.

"It's fun playing an immortal character. I play Emmett in 'Twilight,' who's a vampire, he's super strong so he's not afraid of death or being eliminated," Lutz told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish at the Los Angeles premiere of "Immortals" on November 7. "Poseidon's kind of the same way -- he's the happy uncle to all the younger gods. Even though he's a god, he's a youthful god and he gets to play around and push buttons with Zeus as far as not to mingle with the humans and mankind. He takes a big swim. So, it's fun playing an immortal character."

The action film follows Greek peasant-turned-warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill), who was secretly chosen by Zeus to save his people from King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his army of Titans. Theseus gathers a band of outsiders to aid him, including visionary priestess Phaedra (Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff).

"I think the story's so original, I know that's what drew me to the project right away. Movies like 'Clash of the Titan,' which was amazing, and the remake's gonna be amazing, but you know when the cracking is coming. This movie, I read it and I fell in love with it cause it's so original, I don't think people are really going to know what's going to come next. I think they're really gonna love it."

Lutz and the rest of the male cast underwent intense training to portray gods and warriors. At San Diego Comic-Con, the actor said there was an on-set nutritionist who helped them look good while barely wearing anything.

"I've never been a part of a production that had a nutritionist," Kellan Lutz told OnTheRedCarpet.com at Comic-Con in July. "So we had people feeding us every two hours, 'Here's some tuna, here's some salad.' We were eating a lot, but it was all healthy stuff. Catering is what kills me on movies because you usually have all this food and there's a lot of downtime when you act."

Lutz rose to fame in the "Twilight Saga" franchise as vampire Emmett Cullen. The final chapter of the films, "Breaking Dawn" was directed by Bill Condon. The first part is set to be released on November 18, while the second installment is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 16, 2012.

Aside from the vampire franchise, Lutz has also appeared in films like "Prom Nights," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "A Warrior's Heart" and "Love, Wedding, Marriage."

Lutz is currently filming another film with his "Immortals" co-star Mickey Rourke entitled "Java Heat." The film follows an American in Indonesia who joins forces with a police officer to track down a terrorist.

"I've been shooting in Indonesia with Mickey Rourke, so it's great to actually work with him finally, cause in this movie, which is epic, I didn't have the chance to work with him," Lutz said at the "Immortals" premiere. "It's really kind of weird when people are in movies but you don't get to 'work' with them. So we've been doing a big action movie in Indonesia, I just flew in three hours ago, 24 hours of traveling and now I'm here to enjoy what we all worked so hard on!"
