ICYMI IFC takes North American rights "Gallows Hill" @peterfacinelli

screendaily EXCLUSIVE: IFC takes North American rights to Victor Garcia’s genre outing.

IFC has picked up North American rights to Victor Garcia’s genre title Gallows Hill following a strong buyer response at a recent Los Angeles screening.

IM Global’s Octane division handles international sales at EFM.

The film screens in the market tomorrow (Feb 8) and stars Peter Facinelli, the UK’s Sophia Myles, Nathalia Ramos and Colombian model and actress Carolina Guerra, part of a large Colombian contingency.

Gallows Hill was financed entirely within Colombia by television network RCN¹s affiliate Five 7 Media, who produced with A Bigger Boat and Launchpad Productions. Peter Block, David Higgins and Andrea Chung produced.

Rich D’Ovidio, whose credits include The Call and Thir13en Ghosts, wrote the screenplay about a widower who takes his children on a trip to their mother’s Colombian hometown.

En route, the family are involved in an accident and take refuge in a secluded inn, where they free a girl locked in a basement and set in motion a terrifying sequence of events.

Peter Facinelli: First Still From "Gallows Hill" Plus FilmDistrict to Co-Produce '"The Last Word"

FilmDistrict has come aboard to co-finance The Last Word, a paranormal-themed horror movie.

hollywoodreporter The project originally was picked up by A7SLE Films principals Eric Gores, Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco. The trio then partnered with Frank Mancuso Jr. of Boss Media and brought in Ben Ketai to write the script.
Based on true events, Word, according to FilmDistrict, “will focus on the strange and tragic aftermath endured by the participants in the trial of a young man in Texas who was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun.”
Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman of FilmDistrict join A7SLE and Boss Media principals as producers.
The plan is to get the movie off the ground in the summer for a release in 2014.
Mancuso made a bold promise regarding the film: “ 'Based on a true story’ has been overused as a marketing ploy; however this film will scorch an indelible imprint on those who see it. The powerful words of this dying man will never be forgotten.”
This is the first feature deal for Ketai, who wrote Chosen, a series on Sony's digital platform Crackle; and Devil’s Night and 30 Days of Night on FEARNet.

THR: Peter Facinelli to Star in 'Gallows Hill'

 The Twilight Saga’s Peter Facinelli will star in Gallows Hill, a supernatural horror movie to be directed by Victor Garcia.

 Sophia Myles (Underworld)and Nathalia Ramos(Nickelodeon’s House of Anubis) are also in the movie, which is being produced byDavid Higgins of Launchpad Productions, Peter Block of A Bigger Boat and Andrea Chung.

Written by Richard D’Ovidio(Thirteen Ghosts), the story follows an American (Facinelli), widowed from his Colombia-born wife, who flies to Bogota with his new fiancée (Myles) to retrieve his rebellious teenage daughter Jill (Ramos). After a car accident leaves them stranded in a rundown isolated inn, they discover the old innkeeper has locked a young girl in the basement and their decision to set her free has unintended consequences. D’Ovidio and Higgins wrote the story.

Shooting is due to being this month in Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

Mauricio Ardila and Julian Giraldo of E-NNOVVA Films are exec producing, and 
Octane, IM Global's genre arm, is handling international sales.

The South American castmembers include Carolina Guerra of A Corazon Abierto, the Latin American adaptation of Grey's Anatomy, and Colombian star Diego Cadavid. 

Myles is repped by Gersh and United Agents, Ramos by Coast to Coast Talent.
